Tour of Trash Palace, 1998

Trash Palace began in 1995. It started off as a way for me to sell off some excess horror movie posters and it quickly grew into selling rare VHS tapes, soundtrack records and cool toys all with an exploitation movie slant. Back then Trash Palace was operating out of my apartment which was near Wheaton, Maryland until I moved in 2001. Since then it has grown in size and moved another time. I recently came across this handheld video that I shot in the dreaded VHS-C format on January 13th, 1998. Come with me now for a trip down memory lane when I was a bit skinnier and a lot snarkier! Trash Palace on WOWD's Rock Continuum!

Last March 9th, 2020, I was a guest on WOWD Radio in Takoma Park, Maryland on Steve Lorber's "Rock Continuum" show. Steve has a new segment called "Defend Your Music" in which every other week his guest comes on to play whatever they like and then discuss the tracks. For this episode I brought along some soundtrack music from "Vampyros Lesbos", "Mondo teeno", "The Human Tornado", "Don't Open the Window", "Groupie Girl", "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", "The Green Slime", "Beat Girl", "Don't Torture a Duckling" and others. R.I.P. JANINE REYNAUD, 1930 - 2018

Word has come our way that Janine Reynaud, the iconic actress of Jess Franco's "Succubus" and "Kiss me Monster", has passed away. She also acted in several European cult faves of mine including the spy film "Ypotron", Max Pecas's "I Am A Nymphomaniac" and José Bénazéraf's "Frustration". Reynaud acted in about 30 movies total, her untypically striking appearance will remain a staple in my mind of the Euro cult movie world. R.I.P. Janine Reynaud, 1930 - 2018.

This is a clip from Cheng Hou's 1977 movie "Shaolin Invincibles" (Chinese title: "Yong zheng ming zhang Shao Lin men") starring Carter Wong and featuring the amazing, ass-kicking gorillas! Does it get much better than this? I ask you?

SHORT OF THE MOMENT: "I CREATED LANCELOT LINK" (UNCUT!)

Jeff Krulik has just made available via Youtube the original, uncut version of the great little documentary short "I Created Lancelot Link". Shot back in 1997 (but released in 1999) by Krulik and Diane Bernard and edited by Mark Zuckerman, the short was sliced up like a banana split for the extra's doc feature on last year's "Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp" remastered DVD release by Film Chest. Film Chest did do a really nice job on that DVD compared to Image's earlier DVD release which was much darker and washed-out looking. But they should've just included "I Created..." as an extra unto itself instead of cutting it up and burying it within the DVD extra's own doc. At the very least they should've made it accessible with a chapter stop. In this day and age there's no excuse for that. One gets the feeling that the makers of the DVD's own doc were trying to reap the benefits of Bernard and Krulik's hard work themselves. Jeff was also the one responsible for pointing out to them in 2004 that Tonga, the star chimp who played Lancelot, was actually alive and well and living in an animal sanctuary (not that he received any credit for that discovery).

Okay, enough monkey-poop flingin'. Let's get swingin'! In the words of Ed Simian, "It'll be a really big shoooo-oooo-ooooooo!"

JESS FRANCO R.I.P.

We've received the sad news today that our beloved Jess Franco has passed early this morning. Last Wednesday Jess was admitted into a hospital in Malaga, Spain after suffering a bad stroke and has been in intensive care treatment since. Now that he is at peace, we can only hope that he's gone on to meet his beloved Lina (who unexpectedly passed on February 15th, 2012) in Heaven.
